A coil cover is a must have for any active detectorist.

To get the most depth out of a detector, the coil should skim the ground, and skimming rocky or sandy ground is like dragging your coil over rough sandpaper. Metal detecting will eventually wear out your expensive search coil. A coil cover fits over the coil and takes the brunt of the abuse, preventing normal wear without decreasing sensitivity.

Essentially it's cheap protection for the more expensive coil.

These are the 6.5" by 9" coil covers for the standard PROformance search coils shipped with the Garrett ACE 150 and ACE 250 detectors.
